At Jack and Jill, our preschool curriculum includes a safe and nurturing environment where children are encouraged to explore, are given the freedom to make choices, and engage in stimulating activities that spark the imagination. Throughout the day the children are guided by teachers who are trained in and understand the impact of early education on children’s development.
We feel children learn best through play and need to be engaged to learn. We offer them the independence to explore and make their own choices about play but are always close by to provide teachable moments as they arise. Our classrooms are set up by learning centers. Teachers will change the content of the activities as the year progresses to fit the theme, seasons, and the interests and skills of the children as they grow. Children engage in both self-directed activities and teacher facilitated curriculum. We seek to foster curiosity, creativity, and a lifelong love of learning by making the curriculum interesting and fun. Our curriculum is aligned with the Department of Education’s Preschool Curriculum Guidelines. We believe Early Education is essential in a child's development and future success.
What sets us apart from other preschool programs?
We exceed the mandatory childcare requirements of having 1 lead teacher on site and by having certified lead teachers within each of our classrooms. Each of our classrooms include a teacher with a bachelor's degree.
A lead teacher is required to have 4 college level courses in early childhood curriculum, child development, program planning, or behavior management and a minimum of 36 months experience.
A certified teacher is only required to have a high school diploma and one course in child development and nine months experience.
We feel that college coursework specifically in curriculum, program planning, behavior management, and other early childhood courses educates our teachers on how to properly lead a classroom and prepare their students for kindergarten and their future.
Our 5-day program is a completely separate class for kindergarten preparation not a combination of a younger 2 day and 3-day class. It is 5 days in the same classroom with the same group of children at the same age. It is five days of preschool for families looking for more school days in their child's schedule. It is also an alternative for students who miss the public-school kindergarten age requirements.
